GTI and C doors

Hello all,
I'm looking to send my mk1 in for a full respray and one of the doors isn't great so a I'm looking to swap it out for a solid replacement. There's one online that came from a mk1 golf C. Is there any difference between the two? I'm sure the mirrors are different and didn't know if this affected the fixing points.

Any wisdom gratefully received.

They do differ dependant on age.

But if the door is of the same era as your car, I'd imagine it'd be fine.

Ah ok, that's what I feared. I'll enquire and get a few more details. Thanks.

The only difference I can think off is the mirrors, remote mirrors (control knob inside the car) have a big hole so the cables go inside the car while flag mirrors (manual movement via opening the window and moving it) only have the 2 holes for the screws.

If you have the remote mirrors and the donor door has the flag type mirrors you can alway just drill a big hole in the door in feed the cables through.

Like I say, if the doors are of a similar age, they'll be fine.

I've seen doors that differ quite a bit internally.

Won't stop you using them tho.

When I rebuilt the GTI I used doors from a Golf C, both 3dr vehicles from same era, 5dr doors are shorter of course

They fit fine but as said lots of minor difference to the fittings, eg on one (cant remember which now) the black metal quarter light frame ran to the door bottom and one didn't, the GTI had extra sealing rubbers on the door frame that sealed against the upper A=pillar and roof.

Yeah big one seems to be where and how the quarter light upright fixes at the bottom. Later doors have a big old circular recess in the bottom corner that looks to be there to accept a speaker backing or something?

Bigger one tho, is the internal mechanisms inside the door that mate up to the door handles, later handle mechanisms don't work on early doors and vice versa.
