It looks like this has a factory steel sunroof? Was this an option on the series 1? Or is it possibly re-shell with series 2 but small light rear panel? :dontknow:  (Bets on Rajan knowing!! )

Steel sunroofs were a factory option on every Mk1.

The fact that it is white is a concern to be checked - either a respray or an import as white was not a UK option.

also did the series 1 have the black sticker around the bootlid?

according to the guy white is the original color and the rear panel is the genuine one.

I also says under the stats section that it was previously registered abroad. Is it a possibility that maybe it was a RHD car bought in Germany maybe by someone in the services and brought back, or a personal import?

Has anyone established whether the car is sound mechanically, or whether it requires any work in that department?

I had a 1600 W reg personal import from Germany brought back by someone in the forces, with steel roof, tinted glass and the little clips that hold the rear belts when not in use, it was a big rear light model with a 5 speed box, wish I still had it
