Making Fuel Lines

Need to replace the send/return fuel lines that run that run under the car. The original ones are steel, is it safe to use copper to make up new ones?

Cheers

Hi Mark

I think this has been discussed before? From memory you couldn't, something to do with the copper pipes work hardening/fracturing but then again you use them for brake pipes!

Maybe CuNi pipes are ok?

Otherwise crazyquiff does those braided/flexi ones.

I did see 'littlekev' had a genuine VAG one on ebay for ?20 which I would have bought as already bent to shape but shipping it from Aberdeen would have been a nightmare!!

Let us know what you decide to do

Cheers
Andy

Cheers Andy, as you guessed the main problems with sourcing pre-shapped ones is the postage and Crazyquiff's is a bit far to go for fuel lines. Want original style ones so flexi are no good. What are crazyquiff's pre-shaped ones made of?

Have since been looking around on the internet and found a number of people ( see here )selling copper fuel line for other cars and mentioning fittiong them to campers and Beetles.

Can anyone shed any light on the hardening/fracturing issue?

Think flexy fuel lines Rich 'crazyquiff' does them its easy to fit and there for life and to be honest with you well worth the price .

If flexy poly was around when they built the MK1 VW would have use it instead of the steel items fitted .

Crazyquiff's flexilines look good, but can't really afford them at the moment. Been looking further into copper and it appears Automec sell copper fuel lines kits, so can't see there should be a problem using copper. Think I'll have a go at making my own up.

Yes mate :D  i suppose if funding doesn't allow for them then you wont go wrong with copper . But the price of copper at the moment is to say the least stupid . Maybe worth checking the price first  :dontknow:

You may remember my old post on flexy fuel lines ? I had my own flexy pipes made by a local company [very cheaply] so it may be worth a search first in you area .
