in line fuel filter,

should the small in line fuel filter in the engine bay be full of petrol when running, or is it ok to have air in there?

pretty sure you shouldn't have any air in there, as that'll just get pushed through the metering unit into the injectors and cause bad running

Just looked outside and the filter on my 1.8 carb engine is full, if that helps.  :dontknow:

You should drink more water.
1664 is 95% water.
Drink more beer? :)

Is it the pump that keeps up the fuel pressure?

1.3 mk2 engine,
my filter is half and half, i think it depends on what your fuel pumps like but i no it doesnot matter if air is in it on mine as mine has a built in fuel vapouriser, this has an overflow bk to the tank and the air rises to the top of the vapouriser and gfoes of back into the tank with any excess fuel not needed, hope this helps

Anyone know if this is the same on a 1.8 carb,    I'm just trying to get to the bottom of what i believe is a fuel starvation problem..  Look at these photos, the top one is somebody elses engine, (ignore the arrow pointing at the carb, this was for something else)  He has two "things" attached to the fuel lines, but look at the bottom picture of my engine, I only have one, which I assume is the pump !

On all the (carb) Golf's I've had the fuel filter is half and half with no problems.  As you put in your other post you are missing a fuel reservoir and the return line.  I'll see if I can get some pics of mine later.
