Exhaust snapped
Finally got my dash working on sunday, thought I'd go for my first drive with a rev counter working. Reversed off my drive and…
…my exhaust fell off
I have only had my car for about a month so I still don't know much about it on the documents it says it has a full system exhaust fitted.
It has snapped at the down pipe section just as two pipes are join and are welded to a single pipe.
Questions:
Do full system exhausts usually include the down pipe?
Are Campaign exhausts same as gtis?
Does the standard gti campaign down pipe go from 2 to 1?
Do i have to remove any other parts to get at the bolts to replace it?
thanks

Often exhausts are quoted without the front down pipe.
Campaigns are same as 1.8 GTIs. Not sure about 1.6s, think rear box different?
Later Cabs are different and use the C clips at manifold end.
Yes standard is 2 into 1.
The down pipe should have some tin shields attached that get in the way a bit, you can get to the bolts from below. Its not one of the best jobs you can do on a MK1. Becareful of snapping the studs!
I found that the nearly new pattern part on mine was a very bad fit and bought an ?Ernst? from GSF. Weighed twice as much and much better fit.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I just bought one from GSF, haven't fitted it yet though. First they sent me the wrong one (apparently there are 2 types) I got sent one that has a cup on the manifold end and is fixed with some clips, whereas the one I needed has a flat plate with six bolt holes to fix it to the manifold and this one is described incorrectly on thier website.
However they were reasonable and collected the incorrect one and delivered correct one at no cost to me.

Thanks guys,
I looked at the ernst exhausts and they only seem to be for the older style golf with carbs, (clips instead of bolts).
So i will probably order 1 from gsf, Mike do you have the product code for the correct one or any ideas which one is correct on their website.

no it didnt, i bought a new one separate, also from them though, which they didnt fit well, was blowing etc, so had to make a formal complaint as they wouldnt do anything, and they put a 4" tip on my backbox, which we also had to write about, that i didnt ask for or want.
This is powerflow plymouth bye the way. Wont be using them again.
Now getting a straight throught supersprint SS pipe, with standard golf gti backbox and see how that goes.
Shame i just spend like ?300 getting the whole thing (exhaust) working.
