Water pump removed and split down. Rear case plus other ali parts off to the anodisers this week for a good clean up.

Anodised parts sounds great .
What cost are you expecting.
Will they tell you if the casting is still in good order after cleaning before coating .
Love to see that before and after shot.

Well good news and bad news

Good news here is the now picture

Bad new - the anodiser shut its doors 5 months ago.  Haha

But the people I use for wheel powder coating is a option or a home anodising kit for £55 from eBay.  Need to think on this one for a while and currently thinking powder coating to match my grey wheels.

So given up on my search for a local anodiser and took the parts to the guys that did my wheel refurbishment. They will blast clean and paint the parts for £20. Happy days. Should collect them in a couple of days.

Just picked them up.

Yes I'm liking that finish.
Little by little part by part.
Ha I pictured a mad max warrior with a tin of chrome doing it …
Clearly more professional than them…

They look brilliant and for that price as well, dead cheap. ;)
If I had that done over here it would cost me quadruple as much, I'd say about €100!

What did you do to your Mk1 Golf Today ?

So need to drill a small hole in the thermostat (don’t have a drill in the office. Should be working. ). But decided to paint the impeller black with the pulley.

Also need to get an prong that meets the block before refitting.

But I’m liking my play time for today.

Hope you used Never-Seized the bolts as between now, and when you have to take it apart again you may have wished you had if you didn't.

87 in/lbs torque on the bolts.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

All good copper slip in place.

87lb. I used a calibrated wrist from r that piece.

I know that calibrated wrist, as I have snapped plenty of bolts off with that piece, I guess the torque setting varies on Temp as in hot out, cold out or hot under the collar, Time of day, amount of Coffee, and if it is easily removed from the rear after snapping.   :)

I had to replace the waterpump on my van in the middle of a state park, during a hellacious rain storm between the wedding and the wedding dinner….. Luckily I brought tools for my daughters car… and the bolt that I dropped she found…. I was on Gravel… Her car ran fine…..

Just spent an afternoon doing little jobs.

Fitted an upgraded headlight loom
Replaced the corroded cigarette lighter with two USB ports
20180324_171525.jpg
Rewired the stereo so it goes on and off with the ignition
Fitted an under seat subwoofer
20180324_172907.jpg
Fitted a couple of 6x9 speaker boxes in the rear footwells
20180324_172927.jpg

Somewhere between the subwoofer, the 6x9s and the wind deflector that I finally got to test out I can finally hear music properly with three roof down!  Just got to tidy up the wires and tweak the settings on the sub.

Did the timing belt, a bunch of seals and  valve cover gaskets on the 16v… now the oil should stay where it belongs

Sun shining beautiful today! Decided to go to the local reservoir.. 1st stop the local town for some Easter Bonnet things for my daughter, parked up in the quick stay car park by a Wetherspoons & McDees, I stayed in the car so off the lady’s went.. a guy in his biking gear staring at my car, came up to have a chat, well impressed with the car, said how clean it was & regretted selling his silver tintop in ‘96… ‘wish I still bloody had it..’ another guy shouted over ‘nice to see a classic’. Happy days.. nice to have the wind in our hair… a windbreaker is imminent I think.

Morning. Well I did this yesterday actually. I replaced the metal straps that locate the rear Anti roll Bar. The old ones virtually fell off but fitting the new ones was a nightmare ! Trying to close them up enough to get clips on ???

Yesterday evening I strapped the youngest into the back seat in her pyjamas, fitted the battery booster to get it going (just needs a run for some charge) and went for s little 3 mile drive to the shop that is 500 yards away.

Got loads of longing looks in Tesco’s metro car park but no one bold enough to talk to me.

Then put it back on the drive. I shall repeat this process about 4 times per week all summer with variation is shopping locations and passenger numbers.

Next job remove the fan and other scuttle bay parts and it with lots of sealer on the weekend.

- Added my new membership sticker

- Polished the underside of the bonnet

- Finally worked out that the wrong screw was holding on the door card and that's why the black cap wouldn't fit. Found the proper screw and hey presto
