What did you do to your MK1 today?

I drove mine for the first time

Booked it in for a full renovation ...... now where the heck am I going to raise the funds????!!!!

Couldn't get her to start then snapped the accelerator cable : (

Went to fit OMP front upper and lower strut brace.

Upper went on fine…

Lower did not… The alignment is off 4 / 5mm I think…

Went off in high spirits in the Clipper with the wife to VW Heritage in Burgess Hill for their Bar b que. Got along M23, smelt burning, pulled off at Copthorne did not make it up the hill. Steam and smoke everywhere. Temp indicator had come out!! A kind gent in a pick up towed me off the slip road to the Esso garage in Copthorne, now 7.30pm Called AA They turned up at 11.15pm in a recovery vehicle!! Head gasket gone, water pump gone, all not good. He then goes away as he has another job and we wait till 12.20am for a huge flatbed to turn up. Vehicle can not get up our drive way or to the local garage so dump car in road, got to bed 2.10am and I have lost my prescription sun glasses (£120) not a good day!!!  

Took the cabby for mot………..failed on o/s handbrake low reading(adjusted cable), n/s headlight too low and a bare wire that the tape had come off. So 15 mins work and it was all done but couldn't get it retested until 5.30pm yesterday.
So had a nice drive with the hood down

Decided that 32 degrees of heat was perfect time to re Waxoyl the car. Should last another 31 yes now, plus doubt myself or the road outside the house will ever rust again!

Got my insurance money through at last, so booked the car in for the repair and a few other bits, bought myself a new carpet for the cab, wheel spacers, some u.s bits and some shiny bits  

A quick polish and a new chin spoiler.

Did some washing:




It certainly needed it, but I can't believe how quickly the carpets dried in the sun.

Just one tip, try to avoid rinsing the hoover with the pressure washer!

Interior looks clean, some odd looking pants on your washing line though  

Gave "Martha" a clean up and took her for her fourth MOT since the rebuild, found out she's done just over 7000 miles in 4 yrs so despite still being clean she does get about a bit ,  passed with flying colours although headlamp beams just on the low limit, probably after dropping the front coilys a bit

Collected white hood cover which has clean up very well and looks good on the cabby

Gave her a fresh mot and put here up for sale !!!! Booooo hoo pm me with email if anyone is keen on a e reg mk1 gti cabby with 130k miles on coilovers and 16" porker wheels which are mint.

Vowed to love it again!!  

Unwrapped Sportline in garage in Spain. Told him he looked very smart.  Started 1st time. Fitted new spotlights, went for a spin in 35 degrees. Have decided to change engine mounts in the autumn as too bloody hot!   

Took Gabby for MOT.  The tester goes nuts when she comes in for MOT.

Hasten to add she passed!



That means she was ready to go to Whitenoise last weekend,

Where she won First Prize for Best Golf in 40 years commemoration of the Golf.
