Thirsty clipper cabby

My wife has a 1988 cabby clipper 1.8 with a weber 32/34 fitted. I bought the carb second hand. Anyway the car runs but seems to be a bit gutless. Its also using a lot of fuel. Is this normal? 

I would say maybe the carb needs setting up, there is companies you can send the carb off to and they will re condition and re jet, might be worth considering ?
