And should there be any pipes on the intake?

Any help would be much appreciated, the little white bit with the small bit of wire is the choke earth I think, no idea where it should go to though!

I found this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Bay-Camper-Electronic-Ignition-Kit-Chrome-Coil-/120846326657?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ACaddy%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+I&hash=item1c23009b81 …not a clue if it would be compatible or not though!

if the coil has a purple/white wire then it is indeed points, if only black wires then it should be electronic ignition. the purple/white wire is a resistor type and is needed for points coils otherwise they die. some may have some kind of ballast resistor, but i believe this is only really early models
to convert it is simple, change coil & dizzy for mk1/2 1.6 with electronic ignition, fit the tci unit and loom from all of the above, finally add a proper ignition live feed to the coil and bin the purple/white wire. the cap, arm and leads need to match the coil donor.
