mk2 golf engine and gear box in a mk1?
just been to collect my mk1 1600 engine and box.
when i got there its from a mk2 and they was not even sure if it was a 1600 or 1800.
nice ay!
it was a 3 hour drive so i came back with it anyway and plus it was a ebay buy so no choice.
what do i do about fitting (mounting) it?
and also can i use the gear box thats come with it? (its a green end cap box) and will my drive shafts fit or not?
thanks
nathan

either way engine will drop into a 1.5-1.8 mk1, gearbox will also work but if its got 100mm flanges either need to swap on 90,mm ones or fit 100mm driveshafts off a late scirocco or cabrio

what you need is the driver side engine mount from a 1.5-1.8 mk1/cabby/scirocco, and both of the gearbox brackets from a 1.5-1.8 manual 5 speed mk1/cabby/scirocco
if your car was originally a 1.0-1.3 the driver side bracket needs choopping off the chassis leg and moving, plus if a 1.0-1.3 or an auto the stewering rack needs swapping for a 1.5-1.8 manual mk1/cabby/scirocco

just say:
'could i have all the engine mountings required to fit a 1.5-1.8 8v engine & 5 speed box to a 1.6 MK1 Golf'
and also ask about 5 speed golf gear linkages & shifter if you dont have these already, in particular there is a linkage piece bolted onto the MK1 gearbox which you'll need, as the MK2 piece is different, plus all the plastic ended rods etc.
If you look at the mk2 box you'll see an L shaped linkage with 2 ball ends, its this bit that needs removing and swapping for a MK1 equivilant item
