It looks mint mate i really do like it, just keep putin pics up.
When you sand down to the bare metal how do you prevent the rust from growing?
Is what your doing a MOT failure. Wel that pic of the car with no bonet earlyer on the thread. I guess thats MOT failure?
Just wanting to know as im 50/50 on doing the caddy rat!!
Regards
Dan
Depends on the rust really mate..
the bonnet thats onthere now is just getting rustyer day by day.. but as its nto structural its not an MOT failure. I've just started another bonnet that will go like the tailgate, let the rust start, then wipe off any loose bits, then laquer it witha non water based laquer.
Rust needs oxygen to start, so as long as its all coated it should be fine
there is loads of rat looks around, its very popular, i just wanted to make a cool car as cheap as possible…But at the mo all its doing is making me want another beetle

Up to now (other than the roofrack) the cars cost me ?20 to do (plus time and necesary parts)
I like it at the mo, but think it needs more, needs to be lower, a lot lower, paint needs dulling up, too shiny at mo..

It was decided the HOF is not low enough so needed to be whacked with the lowering stick
so a bit of a bargain from Tom (the low ratty one) saw some second hand coilovers come my way. Not sure of the make tho,
How much better does this look?
Notice the drivers wing mirror too???

Loads better mate, but I'd say the back needs dropping a little bit more, unless it's the way it's sat on the curb?
Back aint been done yet, but tempted to keep it up, better for towing plus its more hot rod style looking…

Ash, know where you coming from Mate, golf estate is sensible for work..
As to tow bar, I have a wife, the wife wont do camping in a tent, camper was cool, trailer tent is next best thing, plus as we're only a short drive from the new forest we go camping quite a bit, and with Wendy's bad back, she cant sleep on floor, so its was either keep the camper and not have a dily driver, or stick the towbar on the mk1 and get an estate..
8O 8O I like the towbar personally and the height of the rear end, makes it unique.. 8O 8O
Especially if i get a bigger engine in, would make it even funnier

Ah that'd explain it, tow with the MK3, cut the springs on the mk1

If i tow with mk3 then it all goes round full circle again.. How do we camp at shows, idea of tow bar on the mk1 and the trailer tent was to keep wendy happy and make sure we cantake the mk1 to shows…
Gonna see how it tows like that first and if it'll go lower and still tow ok, then the coilovers will go on the back too

Yeah makes sense, no point turning up to a MK1 meet in a MK3, completely forgot about that!
