Back firing/ running on 3
Yes the water pump is the tensioner, but you don't need to replace it if it's in good nick and the teeth are not worn, unless you want to.
You said it looks like new, perhaps someone has been here ahead of you…

So im taking the head off now and having a look.
My piston rings havnt gone as there is no oil on the plugs or in the cylinder, so im hoping its just burnt out a few valves.
I will keep you updated

Oh dear, no compression - still at least you're moving forward.
Have you had the car long ?
Is it possible that the cambelt has broken/slipped sometime in the past - then if the valves got bent they might not close fully - hence no compression.
Otherwise look carefully at the head gasket between 1 & 2 - may be leaking between the two.

Now we know why it was running OK one minute, then on 2
You might notice the difference once it's fixed.
Good Luck and let us know.

Ive now done 240 miles and earlyer it started to do the same.
It only seems to do it when ive been driving about 10 minutes, just after it gets warm. Could anyone shed some light?
I thought about the condenser or something like that or the spark plugs maybe?
