When you neighbours start talking about the shanty town in your back garden, due to all the sheds that you have to build to accomodate the amount of mark 1 parts that you collect, just in case. "No dear, I'm not getting rid of it. I might need it one day."
First Golf, lots of work. I've started so I'll finish!

You keep stalling your 05 plate vectra cos the clutch is too light
you still haven't worked out how to put down the windows on said vectra.
and this one is a bit specific to me
giving up a fantastic job teaching english in japan after only5 months because you couldn't bear to think of your car sitting idle in your parents garage until you came back :lmao:

Driving a MK1 too long
Before you set off at night, think it is normal to get out of the car and slap the headlight to get it working.
Become decidely religious when the first time you turn the ignition key, nothing happens….. prayer to the motor gods then ensue.
You are able to spot the smallest rust imperfection at 50 meters.
'88 Golf GTI Cabrio….I look like an extra from the village people, but hey I like it.

You put it it the garage for a while until you can afford the respray it deserves.
Sell the rubbish Pug D Turbo you have been running around in to keep the mk1 nice to a spotty cross-eyed student and buy a VR6.
Having got the VR6, sit in it thinking "this is all so modern, is this a concept car?" and then realize that it is 13 years old.
Spend lots of time and money getting the VR suspension nice and stiff and bumpy so everything rattles, CD's jump and your passengers feel sick, just like the mk1.
Wish you weren't now paying to use twice as much fuel to drive a car that now feels just like the mk1.

-When you sit behind a Mk5 GTI and say to yourself "This one's better".
-When you roll down your window you roll down the passenger window straight after just so you can get the full effect of that 'burble pop' noise.
-When you know the man at GSF will give you a discount "just because its a Mk1".
-When you make sure you get in the car before your passenger so you can close the door when they're getting in just so you don't have to shut your door twice and they do.
I love my Mk1
