Where the best place to get a MK1 Gti Fuel Tank , are VW ones still available if not how good are the replica parts?
Im also looking for a brake line solution, id prefer something a bit more durable and nicer looking that the copper pipes any ideas?

you can use a good condition recondition fuel tank. Just put a nice coat of paint over it and it'll last forever.

I then managed to get a really nice low mile tank for ?20! 8) no corrosion at all inside- see resto thread for pics….
i think some companies still do the tanks…. try euro or even better try your local parts shop - they have many suppliers…
for brake line you can either go entirely braided (look sweet - cost tonnes) or use Kunifer it is much better than steel or copper and shines really well when rubbed up with autosol…. (im i sad?)

They lack a baffle and the in-tank filter I think, although this is most pattern ones not just GSF. The lack of baffle means that you can get sprayed with petrol when removing the filler cap, particularly in hot weather. Also lost of people have reported the paint inside peeling off after a bit of use which can't be good. I'd go for a decent genuine 2nd hand one, or fork out ?300 for new one.

Guys, I've just bought a GSF fuel tank for my MK1 tintop. It has a baffel and seems ok to me. Can't see anything that will peel off inside but haven't looked that closely. I don't know how to post pictures otherwise I would here. PM me if you want the pics I took of the outside of the tank as well as the inside so you can see the baffel.

Current MK1 rebuild elapsed time - 15 years and counting…
Is it normal to clean and paint bits of your car that will never be seen?
Not-so-new addition - 1996 MK1 Citi Golf (off the road for 4 years… and counting)
