Another newbie
Time to introduce myself. My name is Ash and i have just bought a 1983 Mk1 Gti in lhansa green with BBS bodykit and a 2.0l conversion. Sadly i am not restoring it, but the rollcage and seats are ready to go in and aiming to get to the nurburgring by June.
I have had a few mk2 in my time and a corrado, but fancied a change.
Cheers

Evening
I will get some pics up of my beast in a bit. I can't wait to get it to the ring, i've driven my old Impreza at the ring and taken a clio 172 Cup out as well so hoping with a few choice mods the mk1 can lap as quickly as the clio.
The car has a good engine, but the chassis needs some work. I had it rolling roaded when i bought it and it produced 167bhp then promplty died in a puff of black smoke so we be a few months before it's ready.

If there is any help you need with bodywork and the engine the forum is more than happy to help.
Do get some pictures up of 'the beast'

167 was a good acheivement on an 8v, I hope you can get it sorted again. I would think with that sort of power it would easy keep up with a 172 clio think of all the weight saved without modern trim and electric gadgets. With decent suspension should lap as quick if not quicker 8)

The Beast
yes the car was on ebay. I looked into in and it had been a Cat C write off so i did a deal with the guy, but luckily i have friends in the business and managed to find out more about the damage. I never intended it to be a road car but first thing i had it on the jig and the wheels laser aligned so i know the chassis is straight and safe. I am however going to weld in some chassis strengthening panels when the roll cage goes in and a full undershell sump and engine guard.
The car is fitted with a grant motorsport head, a polished mainfold and full stainless system and a piper 285 cam and has had the throttle bodies bored out.
The car does feel quick, but i don't trust it yet. I am going to document the build so watch this space.

couple of pics
here's a couple of pics, just out of interest if anyone knows anything of the car's past history i would be interested. It is only going to be a track car so not too worried about how it has been treated!

BBS Kit
I quite like the wheels, but sadly they are old and tatty and besides i have a nice set of OZ superturismos with semi-slicks ready to replace them! Lots more fun except i don't recommend them in the wet, very scary!
