New grey vinyl roof is being made at Bsb, full stainless exhaust is on its way from Germany, opted for standard 45mm bore to save the hassle of reducers and over axle pipe knocking! Straight through pipe and elliptical back box like standard, but The tail pipe is a slightly upswept angle 60mm single skin pipe which is exactly the look i was after so well happy 😃
all the other parts needed for the hood swap have been got, new cables, new springs, glue, rivets, staple gun
And all the paint and materials for repainting the lower front and rear panels is sat in the garage
Oh And the body work cutting and polishing and waxing has continued paints come a long way considering,
Still got to fix a couple of things on the electrics and i think I'm going to to replace the steering rack as it's old and tired,
New filler neck will be here shortly also, not because it's rusty! But to get rid of that oh so 90's fuel cap My only dilemma is wheels! Do i go wide, or do i go sensible ?????? Soon as the hoods here and the day is sunny I’m fitting that myself with the help of the guide on here and YouTube I’m pretty confident i can do a good job on it

Other than repainting the fan cowling and getting new rad cards it will stay as is i expect
Well unless i fit the EV Turbo technics engine in at some point 🤓

45mm pipe 60mm outlet all stainless, fantastic build quality for £175 and if it's a bit loud i can always add a custom centre box cheaply
Although i doubt its loud will be anything like my Audi RS is
Hopefully this should improve the noise it makes

If you are fitting the exhaust your self on the drive get the back end up as high as you can as it’s a pain getting the mid section over the rear beam.

I'm aware the rear box on it is from a sky rocket of some vintage, someone else mentioned this earlier in the thread
I'm pleased to own it now as it prevents any further monkeys ruining it by adding Wolfsburg fake chrome mirror adjusters and such like 😂
I may well have a go at doing the pipe myself, i have ramps etc, it's why i opted for the standard bore of 45mm
A because the over axle pipe problem
B because of the over axle pipe knocking on 55 and 65mm ones
C because there's no point in fitting a 4 branch as it's a 112 bhp 30 year old car for cruising
D because of the over axle pipe 😂
I'm hoping it sounds as good as it's made, we shall soon see 👍🏻

Got the lower Rear valence done today as well, tidied a few scabby bits, prepped and stone guard then paint, come out just as well

Just means i have now got a Mk1 and pile of goodies to tinker with whilst i recuperate
Obviously the internet has taken a fair few orders heritage must know my address off by heart 😂
Parts currently awaiting fitting
Stainless exhaust
New Grey vinyl hood from BAS
Fuel filler neck (only soi can get rid of the 90's aero cap )
Rear arch decals (once i have re painted the arch covers the old ones ruined!)
Nardi steering wheel and boss
I'm Still deciding on what wheels to go for and searching for a grey OE parcel shelf for it
Although i May just mend and recover this one in a special material

Not to bad a finish from a 1k oe vw paint rattle can in my garden, needs a wee bit more cutting back and will be gleaming, really happy with the colour match
Shame to cover it with a new arch decal really lol but im going to
Got the Nardi fitted as well, although the boss i had was poop so gonna swap it out for a momo when i find one reasonably priced

Now i realise it's like fighting with a Gorrila! That will teach me to opt for a tin top fuel pipe instead of the more expensive cabby one
Anyway after a few expletives and some jiggery pokery it's done and I'm happy with it, looks far better how VW intended
The Filler area metal was actually really decent behind the alloy aero cap so i treated and rough painted it for now until i decide what I'm going to do
I have also found THE wheels i am going to run, i can't believe the stroke of luck they even make them! Perfect size offset and width i wanted 😎
Anyone looking for a genuine 90s aero filler set up give me a shout

Get someone else to do it or allow a weekend of fighting with it, hardest part is the rear cable, what an sob to get right

Next to go on will be the stainless group N exhaust 😂 see how load that is 👍🏻 I don't mind if it sounds like a burg cup car 😂
Then it will be going to have some fettling, new steering rack and a few minor electrical issues sorted, timing all checked along with anything else than leaps out and then mot time hopefully
Once that's done it will be wheels time

After longer than expected i will have the Mk1 back tomorrow! Yay
Whilst it's been away it's had lots done to it
New steering rack and track rods ends, stainless exhaust fitted, some running issues sorted, some electrical gremlins sorted! Wiper and blowers now all work as they should!
And it's got an mot
Can get back to tinkering and improving things on it now before the spring and summer arrive
I'm informed it will likely need a new fuse box in the future as it appears to have got wet during the time it spent sat for 4 years with the previous owner
Parts collecting will begin shortly
I'm happy to be getting it back though
