As a cars exhaust will cause condensate in the silencer that has to be burned off, and may take 15 to 20 minutes as it depends on how much condensation there is.
If it is sweet smelling then that could be a/f.
which could mean a bad head gasket.

Take the car for a good run to burn of the condensation in the exhaust and engine.

Are you losing any coolant?
The coolant hoses should pressurise and get hot when the car is running….

Hydrocarbon combustion refers to the type of reaction where a hydrocarbon reacts with oxygen to create carbon dioxide, water, and heat. Hydrocarbons are molecules consisting of both hydrogen and carbon. They are most famous for being the primary constituent of fossil fuels, namely natural gas, petroleum, and coal.
Leaving idling is not ideal. Runs rich during the warm up stage is wasteful of petrol and it gets swilled down the bores washing the oil away causing wear and ends up in the oil.
Water fills the exhaust and rots from the inside out.
Other bits (gearbox, suspension, steering etc) don't get a work out.
