It has a black top, emailed the guy & he said it has the Temp at 35Deg, 8secs on there, 12v 40w also same part #0280130214. yet no 043906163A #… & it has a black connector not brown - still the same item & does the same job i assume…???

the other part number 043906163A is the VW specific number that bosch would have stamped on it before sending out to VW parts

nipped in to my trustee garage as well, mentioned about the CO test & he said it would take about 1/2 hour or so… need to get it booked in… give the main man a ring tomorrow & get it in to be tested… i'll grab a vernier from work & measure the hex nut size…

make sure the head surface is clean before you refit too, if its badly corroded clean it all up best you can then fill with chemical metal and sand smooooth

What you could do is do some scrappy hunting to locate a T piece and use that to join the 2 hoses into 1 outlet. Automatic mk3 golfs are a good source for these, depending on the pipe diameter. the other option is delete the oil cooler, or use the oil cooler-pump-flange hose from a mk3 golf as they go back to a 2 outlet front flange.
Ideally use a 1.8 8v one, if you can find with an oil cooler. possibly diesels? the 2.0 8v one is slightly longer, but then again some come with a plastic fitting at the bottom so the upper hose coudl be removed and cut down to suit if you get one of those
