Well where do i start spent alot of time reading other peoples projects and never done one my self so here we go lol,
So the story started when a good friend of mine who is on this forum, Tattoo26 asked me if i wanted to take his cab for a spin round the block which i did and loved it soo much to which he told me about this mk1 cab thats been sitting for a few years outside his mates garage. So a couple of weeks later went down to his mates garage and asked about this cab hes got, He said its been not been on the road for a few years but always had an mot every year, shes had a new fuel pump, wiper motor, Brakes alround, new hood hydo pump and a few more things that i cant remember.
The owner was going to put it back out on the road again but lost love for the old girl due to a couple of foxes started to eat the hood!.
So without thinking i offered him £250 and he accepted! handed me the keys and logbook and im now an owner of a Cab ,
So here she is Foxy the Golf, Hence the name lol
its a 1990 model with an electric roof and electric windows which all works , the paint work isnt the best but shes a solid shell with only 1 small rust patch on the rear quarter which ill get cut out and and weld in.
The day i picked her up and brought her home
The interior custom retrim recaro interior
Just under 111k on the clock
Finally Home safe n sound needed a good clean!
So after a good wash, Clay bar, wax and polish she came out rather nice but sadly the the paint off the front bumper desided to come away!!
So that was that for a couple of weeks then i found a complete electic hood and frame work forsale with a brand new mohair hood so drove all the way to liverpool and snapped that up
and got that all bolted on the car
So with chrismas and the new year and the poor weather i didnt have much time to do anything with the golf then looking on ebay i notice someone was selling a full interior so message him offered a price and drove up to lemmington spa and collected that the guy i think is a member on here really nice guy the Interior was in really good condition but sadly the drivers seat was worn but thats not really an issue for me.
so out with the recaro's
and cleaned out all the rubbish under the seats and wetvac the carpets
New interior all fitted
So that was from Oct 2014 till Jan 2015,
not done much to the old girl over the last few weeks due to being too busy but a couple of weeks ago i managed to get the front bumper off and got that sent off to a bodyshop to smooth off the number plate holes and re painted so at the same time i thought ill get the spots all cleaned out as they were milky
After a good clean to both the spots and the grill and a couple of Hella stickers later
And thats where i am with the Golf at the moment plan is to get its mot done and get it back on the road so my next task is to do all the service bits done, new water pump and cambelt all new fluids and cross my fingers she will pass any comments good or bad please feel free.

That's cleaned up really nicely. I don't know what your problem was with the original roof though
Such a transformation! Nice Recaros too

Yeah i liked the recaros but i wasnt a fan with the after market subframes for it, felt like i was sitting to high plus i wanted an original interior back in the car again.
Managed to buy a Personal steering wheel for her over the weekend its only gonna be a temp wheel while i send the original steering wheel off for a retrim as the leather is all cracking and pitting

Well Foxy is all on the road now been a few busy months getting it ready for its MOT but it passed 2nd time after having some issues with the number plate lights not working due to the connectors needing a clean and also a blocked washer jet lol, tbh i thought it was really good considering its been off the road for a good number of years! I've also replaced the water pump, rad fresh G12 coolant, and a new cambelt kit too just need to do an oil change but thats a job for the weekend lol.
She's still not perfect she dose need some interior bits sorting out like the upper door trims, and some body work sorting but at least its got a mot and tax.
Any ways on with the pictures lol
Front bumper back from a friends bodyshop with the number plate holes all smoothed over needed flatting down and polishing but it only cost me a bottle of cheap wine to get it repainted
Trial fit hence why its not sitting straight
My new Personal Steering wheel and my genuine vw radio blank which cost me 99p love ebay
getting its MOT
and finally
Yes the side body trim is missing on the wing i was missing a few clips and didnt wanna risk losing it so waiting for some new clips to arrive and that will be on This is where it stands atm just been enjoying driving this around

It's easy enough to take the lift pump out to check and see in the tank for rusty bits!

You could be right. Does the filler neck need changing - or has it been changed in the recent past?

I think the filler neck is the original one its alittle rusty around the fuel cap part of the neck so thaat might cause an issue. ill try and find a stainless neck and get that changed.
Im gonna order up a new lift pump tomorrow for the sake of £20 i might as well change it while i got it out to check for rusty bits in the tank .
Cheers richyhill fingers crossed ill get it all sorted at the weekend just wanna get out and enjoy it haha

They're worth replacing, as often they look a lot worse off the car than on it! lol
Once that's all done it may be necessary to blow your fuel lines out, but see how you go

So i knew that was causing my fueling issues so fitted the new lift pump with the little filter and a new sender unit seal plumbed it back together and took the old girl out for alittle drive and problem solved so next on my list is a new filler neck and somehow find away to clean out the tank without removing it.
Thanks for all your Help Hairyass i will deffo get the filler neck replaced very soon
Only a couple of pictures didnt take one of the old pump sadly but here the new one fitted to my very poor looking sender unit,
