Transferable ?
Couldn't see anything that quite answered my question,
I bought a replacement DX GTI engine, looks to be about 91-93. Has aux air intake for the injectors, the black-red/ capped dizzy cap and later water-oil cooler.
My question being, are the two transferable on the DX irrespective of year (Oil coolers), can I place the old air-cooler on the later engine?
I assume the fixings etc are essentially the same, just curious if there are any limiting factors, as such that cooling isn’t good enough for the newer engine.
Wanting it to look like the one it replaced essentially, style over substance, as i'm sure the water-oil cooler is a lot more effective, overall.
I understand the aux-air shroud for the head can just be capped off, so in the same vein looking to remove the ugly water-oil cooler Cheers,
Adam.

I'm not so sure the water cooler is more effective, but it can help the oil heat up a bit quicker so that can be an advantage. assuming that your air cooling rad plus the thermostat inside is working I would say it'll probably do a better job of keeping the oil cool? but the water units are pretty good too, never had a problem with them in any of my engiens except when the 1.8 8v one burst inside
tbh i wouldnt bother swapping one for the other but I understand about wanting to keep it original
