Finished the tow bar and fitted it:
It is detachable at the bar.
I like it because it is almost invisible once fitted and does not require any drilling of the car !!
Forgot a couple of pics from before - all the bits layer out to re build the bottom end:
And I decided as a precaution to dowel the crank pulley having heard some horror stories:

I like the tow bar install too, subtle and handy it can be removed. Easy to fit?
What are you planning to tow with it, if not a daft question?

The fit was a bit of a pain as it was made in 1978 for an S1 bumper. I decided to weld on S2 bumper irons and reposition the mounts slightly to get it to sit just right.
With Sharon not being able to drive until she gets her Epilepsy meds right again it makes it a tight squeeze for getting everything in the car when camping - so it is to tow a trailor. I borrowed Dans towbar for last years Malvern and it worked well :-)

Sorry to hear about Sharon, I didn't realise - hope that sorted soon and she can drive again
Yep one MK1 will be a squeeze for everything, trailer makes sense

What you doing to it Ade
Replacing the bottom end as it has always burned oil since the rebuild, either the rings just never seated properly or the overbore was too large.
I have also got a 6 speed conversion for the o2j box to fit :-)
I have never been happy with the brakes with just a pedal box and no servo, so I am going to fit a remote servo - pics are higher up in the thread.
