So the build begins

I am pretty sure that the overbore was done too large, set for a racing supercharged engine instead of a road use one, so oil is getting burnt with the fuel. It does not smoke, but soot builds up in the exhaust and is released as a cloud if you boot it - can be entertaining if the car behind is too close !!
So, there are a number of things I would do different in a rebuild - it would be rude not to take the opportunity :-)
I picked up another Rallye block and some Wossner Pistons. Here it is cleaned and bored to 83mm.
Here is the block painted in POR 15, also cleaned up and painted what will become my new hubs:
More updates as the build progresses

I'm now about to rebuild my pg. Which headgasket will you use for the 83mm bores?

I had a mini years back with a semi-comp engine built 'sloppy.' It smoked like yours when you boot it which was fun with someone behind you wanting to race, but oddly it never really used that much oil.
How long before you think it's back on the road?
Red cabby is looking really clean and shiny too, seeing that, and Chris's Massbad69 regular updates I think I'm getting more cabby love by the minute!
It's a tempting thought to be chopping the MK2 in for one

Don't forget to the old rule though - cabbys are for girls !!!!!
Yes true but I have a GTI too so that must mean I'm in touch with my feminine side, making me more appealing to the opposite sex.
Must be why I'm single!!

Let's see the tow bar fitted

The tow bar took some tweaking as it really was for an S1.
I decided to buy a pattern bumper and weld part of the bumper irons on to the tow bar, so that everything is spot on. I also didn't like the angle it sat at so I moved the mounting nuts - happy now though.
Will get a pic at the weekend
