I'm looking at doing a kr conversion on my golf, I've got the engine and gearbox lined up. I know I need the loom, but what else will I need to get? I've heard that the standard Mk2 golf Kr manifold doesn't fit the mk1 and you need to get a different one, where would I get this from? Is there a guide to the conversion anywhere? Any one who has done a conversion got any hints and tricks behind doing the conversion?
sorry about all the questions, but I'm just trying to get everything sorted in my head before I jump into buying an engine!
Thanks, Travis

The wiring you need fella is only the ignition part of the Kr loom, ecu and ignition amplifier. Some people use the whole pre 90 spec 16v loom but they are hard to come by truth be told.
Exhaust manifolds can be bought online from
eBay, Ashley performance, Vw heritage. Basically search mk1 golf conversion manifold on eBay and loads should appear, also check a few golf related forums. I got a Brand new stainless one at a steal of
£200 when I got mine.
What gearbox
Is it, if its the mk2 gearbox then you'll require 100mm driveshafts or use a mk1 Gti
Gearbox.
Are you staying injection or going carbs, are you upgrading your brakes?
Tips: don't expect it to work straight away
Heat wrap the exhaust and protect the steering boot (read my build thread for info)
Can you weld? Could make a home brew exhaust out of the mk1 and mk2 down pipes.

Hi buddy,
Thanks for the help it has a mk2 gearbox with it, so I would need to get some 100mm driveshafts. If I'm going with injection, will I need just the same part of the loom? And my dad can weld so could have a go at that
Sorry for asking loads of questions!

Yeah if you go injection, use an aav (auxiliary air valve) from the mk1 to do the idle situation rather than the isv. And yeah only the ignition part is needed
Good that you old man can weld that saves you a lot if money!

best bet is full kr loom including the isv control unit for best results but you can get away with the AAV as above. if you get pre-90 mk2 16v engine loom it'll plug right into your fusebox, you'll just have to adjust the lengths slightly
