Wow what a price jump. Is it really worth that?
So 'smudger 1980',
Four years between the adverts and the same car has quadrupled in price?
Must be fair and say from the two adverts, the car has not been touched in that time, not cosmetically anyway.
Not heard of any car in the last ten years that's done that, anywhere in the world but how knows!
But as you say is it really worth it?
I've found (although I've only had a quick look) interesting points between the two adverts.
Clearly it is in the same car.
Same number.
From Hampshire.
The car has not turned a wheel so to speak in four years. Same mileage but no crime.
The really interesting point is, it's the same seller. Same street, in the 2009 advert the garages of the Bungalows are all white.
But in the 2013 advert, his garage door has been painted green but check the brick work of all the properties.
There are the same.
Just doesn't feel right and if it doesn't fell right, then it's most likely not.
I know I've gone way off topic but I'm just backing up your comment and info above was screaming at me to be told.
Not meant to offend anyone, just my observations, maybe all pre-80 GTI's have increased in value X4?

I think I read on here recently that only 96 S1s are left which is only going to push the prices up again.
I don't think anyone would be offended by your honest heart felt opinions mate and to be honest they are spot on. I think maybe that seller is chancing things to see what response if any he gets.
As the old saying goes, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Local Hero
Goes up everytime.
I guess its in no rush to sell so why not? Someone will crack sooner or later and buy it!
the same seller bought a series 2 gti for 5K on ebay and advertised it the next day for 12K! Sold it after 3 years of trying for 9K I believe.

Tell us what year it is and it will be far easier to give you a more exact price of what it is worth

seen this happen a few times now.house prices go down ,bank rates negative so whats next to invest in?…the good old car.so be very careful as i think cars have maybe 18months of inflated prices before they start to fall big style when the attention returns to the housing market.imo of course
Lol, the sort of people who are in that game ate not buying MK1's I can assure you. They are buying high value classics and flipping them.
As for the price of series 1 GTI's the only way is up. There are virtually none left in the UK, they only made them for the UK market for 2 years, the pre 79 ones were all imports.
Good standard series 1's will be worth a fortune in 10 years and is deffo an aprieciating asset. I have a series 1 im curreny restoring, I bought mine as a shell and ive had to track down and fork out for all the bits but thats half the fun!
Get it bought mate

Not a bad price all things considered. Let's hope it went to someone on here who will bring it to the AGM for us to perv over.
Confused….. the guy on the clubgti link sold it to 4star classics,he was touting it about asking for offers saying he wanted it to go to an enthusiast….obviously the money grabbed him first.
