Very easily. You build the mechanical/trim/glass/electrical parts from the write off into a secondhand bodyshell, rivet the VIN plates onto the replacement shell and off you go. As long as the replacement shell is not older than the car you're rebuilding, it's pertfectly legal. It's not legal however to grind off the old stamped in VIN number but that's what normally happens. It's a grey area, but as long as you're not stealing anything or trying to pull a fast one (i.e putting a tax exempt pre 1973 logbook onto a much later Mini or Land Rover etc) then the Police and DVLA are not interested.
