Grrrrr 2.0 16v stalling when hot and in traffic
I thought this would be in connection with the damaged distributor cap.
Basically my car runs great, idles fine and pulls like a train…..However, once ive been for a good drive if I get caught up in traffic it begins to missfire (backfire even) and then stall.
If I turn the key it starts immediately but does the same thing straight away, If I keep the revs on its fine….it only happens when the revs drop below 1000rpm
It did it 3 times in the queue into VW Action today…..how embarrassing!!!

think i can see the 16v ecu just poking out from under the plastic scuttle tray, along with the vacuum line to feed it from the brake servo nipple so all seems well there

right looks like you have a MK1 AAV where the 16v isv should go, which apparently can work ok. 1st thing is to check the valve has 12v when the fuel pump is running, and make surte the valve is opening and closing properly. give it a good clean as well. check all over for air leaks too while you're at it, the folds in the metering head boots a prime place for splitting

Basically I took the ISV off and cleaned the innards with carb cleaner.
The car now idles smoothly at about 900rpm in all conditions and pretty much behaves itself!
