However if you want the stereo to turn off with the car ignition then you will need to have a switched live feed via the ignition relay. Most cars will have both. Usually the live feed to the stereo will be red and the switch live will be blue. Not from the car side however!
The rest of the wiring will be for speakers and that will depend on how many you have plummbed in.
Its not the easiest job in the world, but if you know how to use a digital multimeter and have some time and patience its not too difficult to get it sorted.

You can get ISO connectors that you splice into the Golfs wiring making any further stereo replacment plug and play
