fuel
spark
timing (ignition and valves…)
compression
When the engine DOESN'T run properly, it will run poorly whatever the issue from the above list, so its not possible to say what is at fault when an engine is unwell until diagnosis is done.
I personally turn & tweak the dizzy but I have a good idea of where "right" is on my car and which characteristics of engine running show up when its not quite there. Basically, sluggish = too retarded, pinking/knocking = too advanced. The book says you check the ignition timing 2 ways, firstly do a static check and then use a timing light. You'd need to know the settings and which timing marks you're looking for and reading off, though. Pics and info are in the Haynes manual.

How long you had this car, has it had cambelt changed, do you know if timing is out? has it run whilst in your possession, whats milegae, has it been stored, any work done, any engine changes etc etc, do you have pennies for a new 36tlp weber carb if it has original carb, what condition is carb in? have you been messing with idle and co screws on carb? and other things i.e pennies for vac piping, plugs, leads.
If you can tell us basically in what state the car is as regards replaced parts if any etc it will help loads, i.e you tell me/us some chav had it before you, gives me/us an idea about what could need doing as it could be numerous things.
I am willing to come to preston on basis you pay for my petrol which won't be much and i can go through with you and try and get this little beaut running

Where to start, i had all the problems youve got with yours & more besides , id had enough got messed & messed about spent undreds & was still stuck with a car what wouldnt go & was ready for giving up & then Pedders came along & helped, hes right in what hes saying you have to start with the carb & work your way up, he came over to mine stripped the carb & cleaned it & started from there, it took him a whole day but he got her purring like a kitten was amazing, i went from only getting 10 mins down the road & breaking down to going from nottingham to birmingham & back without a splutter, these things take time & i learnt alot from pedders you have to be prepared to have patience with these things & put the time in to learn otherwise its not worth it mate, listen to what he says & you will have a smashing car i promise you & the most amazing amount of fun youve ever had…
