My name is Andy - 'Hairyarse' on here! I'm 42 and live in Stamford, Lincs. I purchased my Campaign model MK1 Golf GTI on 29th December 2003. It was a little rough around the edges, having had a poor 'blow-over' re-spray at some point and with a black sill repair panel literally stuck on the off-side. Pictured here you can see the car at the club's AGM at Gaydon in 2005.
All that said, I loved it - and still do! I had wanted one since I was a kid, having seen the owner of Mota-vation car parts shop in Kidlington where I grew up, drive around in a Mars Red Campaign MK1, I just fell in love with it.
I had a MK1 Golf 1.5 GL when I was 19 as I couldn't quite afford the insurance on a GTI and loved that too - I had to wait another 13-odd years for the GTI experience! Those that know me - and the car - from the beginning of the club used to joke about the state it was in, especially about the black 'over sill.' I then earned the title of having one of the longest restorations, given that it's been languishing in my garage now for over 6 years! Life and work always gets in the way lol.
However, with the 10th Anniversary of the club looming and having been involved with the club since day one, it would be wrong not to turn up in the MK1, so it's all systems go now to do all I can to get the car finished in time. It will be a tall order but hopefully I can get it done - and I can't wait to drive it again, you can't beat the way a MK1 Golf GTI sounds and drives Here's my drawn-out resto thread for anyone interested - Click Here
