My J Plate Sportline - Build Thread - Updates on last page

OK Guys, so thought it was time i started a build thread on mine.

As most know, i have wanted a red sportline for a while, and after selling my white clipper, i searched and searched and then after a mamouth 24+ hour round trip went to Ireland and bought my car :-)

Here is a link to the purchase and what a long day it was -

http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=your-mk1-golfs_2%2F3-countries-3

Since i have had it home i hadnt really had much time to spend on it , but over the easter weekend i finally had a chance to give it a 4 stage clean with some new G3 product i bought, and i am very happy with the results and the product.

Plans for it this year is New moahir outer roof skin, as well as some inner lamps, one new headlight, some new amber front indicator lenses and a few other bits and bobs on a general tidy up. Then probably next summer if funds permit a few bits of paint that need attention to make it mint.

Its a 6 owner car, with FSH and only 95,000 miles, it also has rear badge on back from dealer that supplies car which matches the service book and the delaer key ring that came with the keys :-) . Although i need to check this now as read on a few forums these badges have come over from the Westmorland dealership in the states and ended up on a certain amount of cars from a uk dealer …… anyone know any more about these badges?

so here is the car before the clean up

then after clean up (engine still to be done)

few interior shots, Needs a vac out etc! Note the token MK1 oc club mats

i then decided the dirt trapped behine rear lights was REALLY annoying me, also the old rear lenses from my clipper were cleaner so rear end got good clean and detail

and thats where i am up to early April 2012.

Now just gota wait for the Sun :-)

yeah spotted that when i bought it, explained to the guy what was missing and he was shocked and said "really, ive never needed to get seats down" lol

i havnt tried to release them yet actually as had no need, but till i get new release bar and knob i think you can lean in boot and release them

Thanks for all the comments guys, really happy with it, new mohair roof coming soon, then a few bits of paint, then i think next year wheels refurbed so they look like new :-)

ok so done a few more minor bits

popped all my show stickers in the windows, not sure if they will stay, as the white clipper was more of neutral colour then the red against the stickers (if that makes sense) also did em in a bit of rush and in garage (can only get in one side) so there not all straight lol.

Pioneer dvd head unit, front components fitted, rear panels out and awaiting some rear speakers from funk which should be here today.

grill off ready for replacement grill without crack in it. Also bought some second hand sports cheap and cleaned them up with gti badge and vw badge from old grill at same time

cracked amber indicator lense also to be replaced this weekend.

also cleaned bay, dosnt look great, slight improvement, but the majority of grime is gone now so just gota do a bit of detailing.

next should be mohair outer skin :-)

engine before:

after:

spot lamps etc ready to go in airing cupboard to get rid of any water inside after clean
