Mabel The Mk1 - First Project

As I'm now starting to buy all the parts and set dates for bodywork and the like, thought it was about time I started a build thread!

Mabel started out pretty stock, 1.5gl 5 speed, 5 door in black still original paint as far as I can tell. Only had a few owners on the log book considering her age!





Got her from a guy in chesterfield off this forum about 2 years ago now, place was like mk1 heaven and nearly brought the orange one behind in the photos but it was all my budget and wanted wheels and coils!

So as to plan on went some cheap coilovers :-)



But rolled on steels for a while!



Then came by some original alley cat wheels 8j all round so coilovers had to be wound back up! 

Then purchased some pressed plates as the old ones were knackered & got a gti splitter, which got ripped off a lot!



Did a year or so using as a daily and away in winter went to every show possible!
Won a spot on the VW Heritage stand at GTI International too -



Then came the decision to buy my diesel daily and for the mk1 to be put into storage.



Just purchased a kr engine off here, plan on getting some bike carbs on hopefully. Full respray but staying the original black and have the obvious welding done!
Needing to sell the wheels too so I can upgrade the brakes too 

And that's the story so far, wish me luck!

Hi Faye and welcome to the forum. Nice little MK1 you have there. Looks like she's received some love and will be getting some more in the coming months.

Been away in a garage for a good few months now while I've been saving the funds!

Daz and his mk1 grave yard  been there a few times myself! 

Looks a solid outer though as a project and as I've said I can be of assistance for you

I've looked for a ready made, but I think I'm going to buy one of the kits off ebay and get a mate to weld it up :-)

Cheers :-) got the fuel pump and pressure reg thrown in too for a little extra!

Yeah it's a sytec 1 to 5psi fuel pressure reg and Facet Posi fuel pump

Very nice. Good luck getting it all fitted up
