79' Golf GL 1.1 series 1 Colibri Green

I collected Jack (named after the original owner) Saturday morning. With many thanks to Flan for letting me take ownership of Jack and making the transaction hassle free.

I intend on using him as a bit of a rat for the summer and then when the tax runs out I will be restoring the bodywork.

I am proud to say he's only had 1 previous owner (on logbook) and with only 72k genuine miles.

I feel very fortunate to have this lil beaut.

I will do my best to keep this project thread up to date.

Its my first official project so any advice is always appreciated.

On Sunday (whilst slightly hanging out) I managed to get both front seat covers off as they are in need of repair and cleaning. I think I will take the covers to the cobblers as I don't trust myself.

Cheers mum for helping and doing the unstitiching

Can anyone tell me (looking at the interior) if there is a shelf/compartment missing underneath the dash.

Seems to be a lot of knee room.

Cheers Smudge.

The original steels had tyres with really bad cracking in the walls so to be safe, I fitted my banded 13s (which have nearly new tyres). I resprayed them recently in hammerite smooth and they don't look too bad and prevents any rust from returning. I wouldn't recommend using it as an aerosol as its really thin and the finish isn't desirable if you want a show finish.

Took the parcel shelf out too which I hope to repair. I want to keep replacing parts to a minimum.

Next week I will drop the seat wrappers off to get repaired. :)

Keeping the originals. It would break my heart to part with them.

Today I dismantled the chrome from the grill and removed all the over spray from previous owners DIY repairs.

Started to repair the parcel shelf.

Going to book wet vac for Monday to give the upholstery a deep cleanse.

Since the funds are low atm I'm doing everything on the cheap - but its all good fun!:)

Thanks for the comments lads. Hopefully sussed those pics in the thread. I've got this week off so I'm going to tackle a few affordable bits.

Yea I sold the cabby to a nice chap on ebay. It was a reluctant move to sell on ebay but I had to in the end!

Hired a Rugdoctor today. Surprisingly made a lot of difference but can't really depict from the photos. I recommend it to anyone who wants to sparkle their interior. I've done the seats too but they are in bits so not worth showing. The tan interior looks so much richer now - almost like a fresh coffee!

Cleaned the seat runner channels and regreased. Seats slide beautifully now.

Before he met the Rugdoctor…

After he met the Rugdoctor…

The devils stout…

Only took me an hour. Set up time was the longest thing.

I'm not in a rush to sell but I'm looking for £350. The falken tyres are nearly new.
