not running right

Post

ive got a caddy sport which has the 1.8 8v k jet engine and just replaced the gearbox on it because mine died, but before replacing the box i had trouble starting it, it was running on 3 cylinders then it would clear and run fine, so while it was off the road i replaced the leads, dizzy, plugs, rotor arm and starter motor, but its still not running right. also the oil pressure will be fine then next minute it would drop on the dial and the light and buzzer will come on and ive also replaced the pressure switch

any help would be nice

thanks tom

You have some dodgy wiring somewhere I would guess as a starting point

Check all your earths and look for damaged wires, check you have not had water get to the fusebox

yeah ill start looking in the morning, i disconnected the plug on the warm up regulator and it fired up fine, so ill take the one off my donor car tomorrow and try that, i was also thinking that i only replaced the switch on the oil cooler, i have a twin one on the side of the block, is it worth replacing that?

Did you make any progress?

i seen that the twin pole sender on the side of the block was leaking oil so ive put the single one back on for now and also the one one top of the oil housing was leaking so ive changed that but the oil light and buzzer would still come on now and then but only when cold, i read up on something about grease drying out in the back of the clocks so i dont know if it could be that, but the worst thing is thzt i still cant get the car to fire up right when cold, i went to a garage so they could have a quick look inbetween jobs and he pointed out the cold start valve and the warm up regualtor but ive replaced them already, he then went on about the metering head. when i finally get it going and it warms up the car funs perfect its just when its cold

have you checked the needle in the side of the metering head, mine was slightly corroded and not very free moving it helped mine a lot. Also set up timing and co2  which also helped.
Check fuel tank and filler neck for rust.
When was your fuel filter last changed?
Checked for air leaks?
Checked your accumulator is not leaking from the screw on the rear?
These are all things I've sorted on mine and ended up not being one specific thing but lots of small tweaks

I'd be tempted to have a look at the injector seals they get hard over time and only start to soften with heat, I.e. When the engine is warm. Sounds like your running symptoms.

Wife, kids, car……not necessarily in that order.
