leaing oil seal/ slipping clutch

Post

what are my options?

Got my clutch changed at a garage a few months back and supplied the oil seal as I had one lying around.

Took the golf in to have something else done and asked them to look at the clutch whilst it was in. (Felt like it was slipping at higher rpm)

They then called back saying the oil seal is leaking and that I need to book the car back in next week.

Should I need to pay for this seeing as they fitted it? Anybody else had this happen to them?

Cheers

is it the seal they fitted or one ofthe others that has gone? which one was it you gave them? the pushrod seal may have failed again due to the brass pushrod bush behind it being worn you see

Did you ask if they are going to charge you to fix a oil seal they fitted a few months back?
Did they give you any guarantee for the work they did?

Don't see how you have an option if you supplied the seal.
You say bad workmanship.
They say inferior seal supplied.
You can't prove either way.

Good point Yomp, I'll guess they will try and get out off it as they did not buy the seal for you unless they are a garage you use a lot and are very friendly.

its the crank seal, which i supplied.

similar to this http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Crank-seal-T25-1-6-1-7D-Mk1-Golf-Caddy-068103051G_act_shop.product_pID_199730.htm

I had a chat with rich at crazyquiffs, and he recommended getting that changed when doing the clutch. so i bought the seal from them.

but yeah, like you say. gonna be hard to prove whats at fault here. if oil has been leaking from there? is it a case of replacing the seal again?

I have the invoice still which notes labour for fitting the oil seal and for doing the clutch.

it may be the gearbox seals are the ones leaking, certainly advisable to replace them while the gearbox is out for sure. best to clarify exactly where the leak is (gearbox oil smells NASTY)

for the box there are 3 parts to change you have the input shaft seal round the input shaft, plus the pushrod seal and brass bush

Welcome to BrokeVW.com

this kit has the above plus seals and dust caps for the driveshaft flanges, it may be worth havign those done if leaky but thats your call:

went in and had a word with the guys today and all is good. its all under warranty, so if the problem is to do with the work that they did then thats great, and they will be covering the costs.

if they take the box off and find its something else, then thats where my wallet comes out. kinda nervous

I had the same problem and thankfully the garage warranted there work ( thanks Richard crazy Quiffs brilliant service ) old cars you got to love them.

My only worry is the garage said it could be something else causing the problem. Which then isn't warranted.

Definitely waiting until I next get paid haha
