02A/02J WITH ROD LINKAGE ???

When fitting the above gearbox,s,  instead of using the cable change they come with,  has anyone used the rod change conversions advertised?.  Wondered how well they actually work.

I've wondered about this too, anybody done it?

I bought one but never fitted it as it's not compatible with the 02A DPA code gearbox that has the bigger diff housing.  Yours for £50 plus P&P if you want to give it a try?

I'm sure there were some positive review on Vortex or somewhere, but like you I couldn't find anyone with first hand experience, so thought I'd get one and give it a go.

Why would you want the rods over the cables?

Because the gear linkage (excluding the rods) is already there, so can make use of it. no trying to make bits fit. Got enough other bits to make fit.

Wondered if it made a better shift than cables that all.

Exactly, hence my original question. I also wondered if the metal rods/joints would transmit more noise/vibration than the cables would, as im only building a road car and would like some refinement.

I find the cable shift really good after I setup it up properly.

I think you can change something on the gearbox to make it a smaller throw too.

If you're going cable shift with an 02A it's worth swapping the tower for an 02J one and refurbing it with the Audi TT short shift kit. I'm really happy with the shift on mine.

It's the Claus von Essen kit, I believe for 02A only as the connections to the tower are completely different for 02J

Yeah I have the 02j box.

It was also the audi tt short shift kit as suggested
