Might not solve your problem but worth doing any way.
There is 2 sizes for fuel filter so make sure you get the right one or post up a picture of it on here and we can tell you which one you need.

Part number for the Mann filter WK 834/1
So double check as Ive even gone into a Euro car parts with the car and reg and they have tried to give me the wrong one.

They don't really make any differeance in performance you can notice.

Ref your problem from the top post, you mention mostly around islands. If that's still the case it could be your fuel tank.
From memory there used to be (& still???) some aftermarket, cheap tanks that had no baffle or anything inside so when you went around a corner and the fuel sloshes to one side of the tank, you starve the fuel pump
