Help needed on the GTI Kjet tronic system

Post

Hey people,

I'm looking for some info on the GTI fuel injection system. I've searched the forum but struggling for what I need. Could do with some sort of schematic diagram just so I know what's what etc.

I've checked everything on my MK1 to run it (recently purchased) as its been stood for 4-5 years. Its all good to fire up but want to flush the fuel system of the old juice.

Is there a drain for the fuel tank before I scrabble under to find out there isn't and what's the best way to flush the pipework up to the engine?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ta muchly!

I took off the pipe tat goes from the tank to the fuel pump, jacked the car at an angle and drained off as much as I could - it has 14 yr old four star in it!  Put 10 litres of super unleaded in, changed the fuel filter and cleaned out the injection meterring head with carburettor cleaner and all was fine.

wow. im struggling at the moment to get my "caster" clipper through the MOT due to emissions..he's got a catalyst and after 2yrs stood he's been stubborn to improve is hc and co2 emmisions, thats after doing italian tune up, and running on 1/2 tank of fresh fuel.. Not sure what to try next, if old school tuners cant get him sorted.. may have to look at set of injectors.

You tried a clean air filter or taking it out. If it's partially blocked your emissions will be high.
Failing that. .. find a better MOT tester  ;)

That must be a late car to have a cat fitted, have you tried adjusting the mixture when its running on the CO2 meter?

Have changed all filters for new..but not tried it without one.. The car is a clipper on  k June 93.. tax expired July 13.hadnt been run for 18 months minimum. Was hoping my third and second gear blast across lincoln would help. Suppose find out tomorrow if a mot Tuesday. .maybe another mot will find another set of issues.  Already spent 50 hrs and ££££ on getting the first mot failures sorted.

What are the emissions readings? High HC normally suggests a misfire.

Hi paul the misfire symptom  is correct..and happens whilst idling.. not whilst having foot on accelerator. Have tried setting idle revs to 800-1200 rpm slower it is worse it gets.. that's what then got me looking at injectors or cold start injectors.

I had the same symptoms and MOT emissions problems, albeit on a bog standard cat-less K-Jet and without other later idle stabilisation and digipants ECUs that late Cabrios have. Started fine, ran fine on the road but idled badly when warm. After much pratting about turned out to be a small air leak on inlet fanimold gasket. Check all pipework and connections and gaskets for leaks.

well the old boys at lincoln autodiagnostics (http://lincolnautodiagnostics.co.uk/ )managed to rectify the emission and get the caster finally ready for MOT test no5…since 24th nov.. And what with new catalyst too…  so was with  a grin on my face i burnt fuel across to hykeham MOT (http://www.hykehammotcentre.co.uk/) getting the engine and cat all warmed up…
Lets get Christmas and new year out of the way and then its time to make pretty and to repair the oil leaks that have come due to neglect.

SORRY EARLY 1800 the problem was mainly catalyst the car was not passing emission with what had just been a through pipe..that's all what what was left of the cat, an empty shell. so they just kept on lowering the hydrocarbon emission until replacement cat arrived, they got one without two flange's so had to make a joint up,  as soon as was put on it passed.. could be a combination of almost tuned without a functioning cat, krypton tune gear and then running, burning 1/2 tank of super unleaded keep him warm. They  expect the emission and running to improve the more he's moving around.  With tuning and new cat fitting and then they also had time to wire door speakers came to less than 200 quid. Also they had not seen the system as installed with kjet and catalyst, so had to consult the slides to find info..
