I might be being stupid but I'm sure someone will set me straight .....
I have a 1988 golf clipper cabrio auto and I have a starting issue.
It happens only when the engine is warm/hot I try and fire up the engine say after filling up and it won't turn over. The previous owner has tried a new starter motor and that has made no difference, so he has proceeded to fit a hot wire button.
Basically this is wired straight from the battery to the starter motor via a button and the car doesn't fail to start.
So does anyone have any ideas where to start as I want the engine bay back to standard without extra wires and I fear for the security of the car with the hot start button.
Thanks in advance
Adam

Just to clarify then it would be a relay in the ignition live to the starter motor with a permanent live from the battery ????

30 - battery +
86 - old red/black starter wire
87 - to starter
31/85 - battery -
you could put an inline fuse on the live feed if you like, but the factory trigger wire isnt fused
