MK1 16v.....

Post

Hello Everyone , i am new to the MK1 game, but not VWs overall. I have own plenty and currently have a mk2 vr6 with a v9 strapped to it.

I recently pickup a 1976 Golf (non swallowtail) S1 originally but was converted to a 81-84 fuse panel but was very hacked together, and dont really want to mess with it.

i want to run a 1.8 16v PL with carbs and was wondering what would be the easiest system to run, i have a whole CE2 MK3 lying around that i was debating using, But would it just be easier to run CE1 since other MK1 ran this system?
Im getting the motor with an engine harness as well. I have figured out and sorted the body harness for the car but not the "right" and "left" harnesses because they are difficult to follow

Question is, which would you guys run? as far is which would be the most "sound" system and easiest to wire.

Thanks

Ethan

if you're gonna run it on carbs theres no need to mess with the car loom at all, just get a mk2/corrado kr ecu and loom, plus a mk2 coil and TCI unit then drop it in and go.

assuming yours is points ignition you'll just have to runa proper ignition live to the engine bay to power the coil, if its got the purple/white resistor wire now

when i got the car the loom was hacked together and you couldnt really follow it and some was missing… I was just going to convert it over to CE2 to i know what is what and easier to manage, For the coil wire, is there any place in the CE2 that? would i have to put it in?

all ce2 wiring looms (except diesel obviously ) have the coil live you need, the mk2 binned off points ignition in the early 80s :)
