Intermittent electrical starting issue

Post

Hi all,

Over recent months I have had an intermittent electrical starting issue that used to happen very rarely however now its more frequent.

When it happens I turn the key and have nothing whatsoever, sometimes if I back it off and try again it will turn over and sometimes not. On the occasions that it doesn't start it then may do when trying again later.

The starter motor was new a couple of years ago and I've cleaned up the chassis earth.

Listening to further suggestions.

Cheers.

Have you checked the connections to the back of the ignition switch? Does it make any differance if you wiggle the key once in the igntion switch? Have you got alot of keys/weight on your key ring?

As above but if the connections are good then it could be the switch itself.  O_o

Thanks guys.

Yet to check the ignition switch itself.

It wouldn't start last night but was okay after a bump start down a hill and was okay for the two times later in the evening.

The relay is clicking even when it doesn't turn over so I think that's fine, wiggling the key made no difference.

The keys are not heavy at all, only the ignition and petrol cap on the bunch.

Thoughts?

Cheers.

check the red/black wire to the starter, buff up the spade contacts and if its a bit loose pinch it with pliers

Hi all,

Just to let you know that I've been using a newly cut key the last few occasions and so far have been without trouble.

Weird I know, could be coincidence?
