fog light issues

My rear fogs dont work, rang out all the wiring, the only thing i can find is no power to pin 83 on the plug for the fog lights ( headlights switched on)
Fuses and wiring ring out fine, head light switch to on but no 12v at the fog switch pin 83. Headlights work fine, wondering whether the headlight switch may be faulty?

All I can say is that power to the foglight switch from the headlight switch is Not pin / terminal 83.
Terminals 83 a / b are the outputs from the foglight switch to the front & rear foglights. (a) being the front lights / first position of the switch, (b) being the rear foglights (plus front) / second position of the switch.
According to the Haynes, power input from fuse 27 mounted on top of the Fuse box, maybe via a Grey / Yellow wire, to the foglight switch is the "+" terminal at the foglight switch. I can't confirm the actual switch terminal number as my car is elsewhere.
I would suggest that you check to see if you have power at the Fog Switch "+" terminal when the headlights are on.
Of course the switch may have failed. Take the plug off the switch. Check continuity across the switch from the "+" terminal to 83b when the switch is in the second position.
Also check continuity from terminal 83b to the rear foglight, hopefully you will be able to see where to concentrate your fault finding.
Hope this helps.

Its a 1983 1300 driver.
the grey and yellow wire on mine comes directly from plug B pin 20 on the fuseboard right up to the fog switch but has no power with the ignition on and the headlights switched on and continuity checks fine.
The fuse on top of the fuseboard on mine has a grey and white wire which comes from pin 83b on the fog switch running through it and have continuity checked it right back to the fog light socket in the tailll light assy.
Next step is figuring out which lead on the headlamp switch allows power to be applied to pin 20 on plug B to see if its the headlight switch or something else?

What you describe is exactly as it is in a Mk2 1300 wiring system. So the "+" is terminal 83 is an input to your foglight switch, 83a & b are the outputs. "a" via fuse 6. "b" via fuse 27.
Pin B20 goes to a "J5 Foglight relay" in position 7, bottom left, on your fuse board. It allow the "X" current to feed your switch.
This "X" current is supplied by Relay J59 position 8 on the fuse board. Positions I to 6 across the top, 7-12 across the bottom.
You know, I don't think the power comes from your headlight switch now, I believe it comes from the ignition being on and energising this "X" contact relay.
I suggest you test the two relays in 7 & 8, off the car, to see if they are working. A 9V battery or the car battery across 85 & 86 should hear the relays click and provide continuity across 30 & 87.
Ok, I am out now for a while See how it goes.

There is currently no relay in my position 7!!!
Any idea on the relay numbers for position 7 and 8 please?
Thank you for your help!

However, what is the status of your car? Project / rebuild or daily driver?
Did the foglights work before you started work?
If they did, you might have a hybrid, you see on my car, I also do not have a relay in position 7, my fogs are wired up without a relay.
I suggest that you get a copy of the Mk1 wiring diagrams and the Mk2 to verify for reference before continuing.

If not it will be back to fault finding! A missing relay would certainly be a possibilty seeing as everything else seems to con check ok.

Im 99% certain now that the relay you highlighted is indeed required on my car! Unfortunatly i dont have a relay to check it with at the minute, but i ran my multimeter between the relay terminal at the fuseboard and + terminal at the fog lamp switch and it has continuity! Will try and source a 4 pin relay this week to get it sorted!
Thank you again Malcolm!!!!

Yeah i have a jumper on my horn relay but have put a relay on the twin air horns under the bonnet.
Got a number 12 relay on order to try in slot 7 to see if that cures my issues!

So follow the grey/yellow from your fog light switch it will(should!) run to a spade, pop that to M/1
Also since you have beeft horns now you want a 53 relay to run em, remove the jumper and pop in sorted. Not sure what a 12 relay is, its not in my list!
