Wiper motor upgrade

Post

I recently got myself another mk1 of which the wipers are painfully slow, much slower than I remember in my other mk1's.

What can I do to make them work at a decent speed? Is a mk2 motor an option and if so what's required to fit it?

Cheers

you just need the plug that fits the MK2 motor, I put male spades on mine and then just plugged into the MK 1 plug.

remove your wiper mechanism and make sue that is all free moving as well, there is a cir clip that hold the spindle in the housing, can be a pain to remove if partially seized

So is it the mk2 plug from the loom end that I need with the motor?

How I fitted a different wipe motor with different connectors to my mk1 scirocco.

aye mk2 or mk3, chop a length of wiring off donor car and either splice to your loom or use spades as above.

the bottom mount is missing but it isnt needed, some have swapped this over from old motor but i never bothered and wipers worked just fine without.

also as said strip the spindles down too probably way past their best

Is a mk3 motor an option?  It looks much the same as a mk2 motor but seems to be quite a bit cheaper.

Yes MK3 works
I got a different relay for mine as well but not fitted yet which gives timed intermittent wipers, think its a '99' relay iirc

Better do it before it starts raining again :-)

It may also be an MOT fail if they are really slow?

It's not long been mot'd and it was an advisory and its going off road for the winter so it's all fine. I think I've got one secured now anyway.
