Washer Bottle Mounted in Boot?

Post

I have my front windscreen washer piped to the rear bottle in the boot. I now have the problem that on hard braking water is forced the full length of the car and squirts/ dribbles out, when its not wanted.

I have put a one-way valve in line not far from the bonnet jet connection, to try and break the remaining water supply up- yet it is still daffodil itself on braking.

Can anybody help, or advise on the best place to put the one-way valve. As I have seen some people say they have used a valve and it works perfectly.

Cheers

non-return valve wont help you, the water needs to flow the same way thru the valve as it will go when you brake! the valves are fitted to stop all the water drainign out the tube back to the tank so washers dont take hours to work.

you coudl try looping the pipe down into more of a U shape, apart from that i dont think theres much you can do?

some kind of pressure valve would do it, but i dont know where you can get one which will be set so that it will only open with pressure from the pump but not from braking force…

or perhaps some kind of solenoid valve operated from the wiper power, but again not sure if you can get em suitable for washer hoses…

You mean it comes out of the washer jet? don't really see how a one way valve can help, surely it can only stop water returning to the bottle.

Like rubjohny said, maybe worth putting a u turn or maybe coil a loop somewhere. not too much
as you may reduce the pressure too much. Liquid does not like sharp turns…

Hmmmmm having the same issue myself come home on a sunny day to find watermarks down my bonnet after a fresh wax really annoys me

I know yes but I thought it may help positioning the one way valve, at the top of the slope from the floor plan to the jet. So that it allows a gap between the water, preventing a constant build up and reducing the pressure.

I've also tried putting loops and a coil into the hose system.

This must be a common problem for anybody doing this conversion ey!

May be worth running the pipe behind the roof lining, up and down the rear and front pillars, as it maybe more difficult for the water to flow up hill to start with. just a thought, maybe worth a try ?

have you tried crimping the pipe so only a decent amount of pressure could get the water
past the crimp ? Not sure how much pressure these pumps have though…

I have tried crimping the pipe, also putting knots in it just enough for the water to squirt out, and it still manages to dribble! I don't fancy taking up my roof lining, also I think this would make matters worse as the water already at roof level in the system would travel downhill to the jets, increasing in speed and pressure.

I'm gonna tie a series of knots at the point where the pipe travels from the floor plan to the bonnet, to try and reduce the pace and pressure of the water travelling full length of the car upon braking.

Sorted it!

I have put 2 90degree plastic connectors within the pipe just as it travels up and into the engine- making a Z shape. This is reducing the flow of water on breaking as it travels down the car, preventing any dribbling.

out of curiosity.. where did you get the bits from ?? Thinking about doing something similar...

I got rid of the rear wiper and washer, so just wired the rear washer motor upto the front and got a long enough piece of hose to run the length of the car from the rear reservoir to the front jets.
