1.6 16v from a 6n2 into a mk1

As the title says, has anyone done this or got any pictures of one in a mk1? This is for my other halfs mk1, we had an AFH for it but her 6n2 Gti is going to be written off shortly and wondered about using the lump from that instead. When we had a quick look nothing really comes up? Anyone done it?

its basically the same lump, so any info you have still applies. main thing is its small block so you want a smallblock mk1 shell otherwise have to chop engine bracket of driver chassis leg and move it.

then its a case of wire splicing if you want injection, or suitable manifold if you want carbs, custom downpipe made up to mate to std mk1 exhaust

It is a small block carb mk1 and we have some twin 40s to go on, just noticed it's not an engine that's used much and was just curious if there was something that made people prefer the AFH lump.Gearbox wise she has a 5 speed mk2 polo box but if we wanted to use the box from the 6n2 will the linkage mate up?and gearbox mounts work?

pretty sure its an 085 box in the polo, if not the mk2 polo box will swap over you'll prob have to change the flywheel over just make sure its a 190mm setup.

the polo may have some kind of dodgy 020-085 hybrid, I've seen those kicking about. if so you may find it fits with mk1 1.5-8 5 speed brackets and gear linkages, piccy up what you have when the engine is out anyway :)

Cheers john! Will get some pictures up as soon as it's all outside by side. Other thing is drive shafts, could possibly be an issue using the 6n2 gearbox?

depends what it is but if its 020 based then normal mk1 020 shafts should go in theory, of 085 then smallblock mk1 :)
