Mk1 passat coupe

So after aelling off my 4wd project, there was obviously some motive aswell as cash needed for it to be what I wanted.

So here, after seeing it a few times drop in price I went in silly cheap and got it, 78 passat coupe import, bought as a non runner with welding work needed (no problem for me)

So on with some welding, was a patch on the floor pan, at this point il say that nothing is really available for these panel wise.

And a wing I went for a repair on, other was too far gone, no pic of the finished item other than from the back after a wire wheel and epoxy 121

And a rear arch repair, again, section made by me

Next I set on the inner wings, few patches to weld but nothing too bad, stripped and epoxy with gravitex over the top

Thennnnnn it got interesting, never seen one in flesh, not had I seen one lowered well or a lot, so I researched long and hard and bought an airlift kit where I could fab my own struts.

Sat on 16" bbs RT's front then back

Note the high build, it's having a full respray inside and out to make the very best of the car.

Always hated air tanks just thrown in so got creative, keeping my boot space and when it's down, it's quite unnoticeable (mock up, will be painted and fixed properly)

Got the engine running and have it a freshen up :)

Finally got a steal of some OZ futuras in 4x100 16" so trial run…

Finally for comparison, before and after

Thanks for reading, but I'm currently trying to build a garage so progress on this will be slow til that's done.

Looks great.

There was an orange one at Volksfling in Scotland in May and I went to see it and talked with the owner about it.

I just deleted the pics of it 😁

Thanks all, certainly unique, I like that fact.was one listing around on hydros last year but do t see it now, and was 4 door.

Chris the orange one is mint, he runs a Facebook page I think and seems a nice guy.

This has had heavy moddifications to make the air work, hydros would have been easier but more exensive.

Long time no speak Brad. Hope you're well mate. Looks like you've been busy.

I'm liking the passat mate. Looks like you've spent a few hours on her already. Will be spot on when finished. Good luck with it.

I know it's a long shot, but in China VW still sell (or up until recently) something very similar to the MK1 passat, I wonder if it would be possible to get new panels from there?

Might be worth looking in to?

Brad.

He was a cracking guy and had just bought a nos front Zender spoiler/splitter for pennies from German eBay.

His car had some great wee touches and a twin typically 80's sunroof which was aftermarket but still cool.
