VW Heritage's Mk1 Jetta Coupe project.

Beige, lots of beige.

Hi all.

Well as the title suggest, we here at VWH have managed to acquire an interesting car that we are about to embark on a project with.

We would like to try something a little different with this project by leaving a lot of the decisions to you guys. You'll have the opportunity to suggest ideas and steer the project in different directions.

The obligatory engine conversion has already been decided, it is in fact still sitting in its donor car in our car park here at VWH hq. Needless to say, it is not going to slow!

A couple of pictures followed by a couple of basic details.

So this little Polish gem is;

-1981 Jetta Coupe.

-1.3 4 speed powerhouse.

-Interior is 50 shades of brown…

-Nevada beige bodywork.

We think the car is a pretty clean and very blank canvas, we hope you guys approve.

As always, please share your opinions and ideas with us, as without them this project wont work.

put the new engine in the boot rather than under the bonnet ?

air ride

some rare alloys or maybe banded steels

2 tone the paintwork, keep beige top half, have a brown bottom half or WRAP it with vinyl wrap with various pages of the VW heritage catalogues you do, so it look like a huge catalogue? so rather than sticker bombed it looks like its been catalgoue bombed

chrome bumpers ?

looks like a nice base, have fun ! and keep the updates coming

nice little project. I'd love a mk1 jetta.

How about putting golf wings on and an early westmoreland grille and headlights? Still got the square headlights sort of like a jetta but different. I've not seen that done on a jetta coupe before.

Is it staying left hand drive?

As it is a lovely beige, why not get some wood effect vinyl wrap to go down the side like an American station wagen? I was thinking of doing that to my passat as it is the same Nevada beige.
Definatly needs some nice rare wheels too.

Put an engine in the back for the rear wheels and one in the front for front wheels with 1 seat in the middle of the car.......... would be different lol

Thanks for all the comments so far guys!

Here is a pic of our donor car.

As much as we'd like to have something a little more old skool fitted. For us, one of the briefs was that the car may be driven on trips to europe fairly regularly so needs to be reliable. Our thoughts are that if we convert our Jetta using all the oe s3 management, we can then pop in to any vw dealer for diagnostics, anywhere in the world.
Since buying the donor car, there has been talk of a rather large turbo finding its way onto our engine, along with the obvious rebuild using a set of h-beam rods. We hope this may set it apart form the usual 20v installs.
Let us know what you think!

Engine in the boot has to be the way to go, there has got to be enough room.

Just like good old dubsport days !

So the S3 got stripped down… here it is slammed, waiting for collection by the scrap man!
(Couldn't believe how hard it is to get rid of a car with no wheels on it!!)

The Jetta's up in the air, mouth wide open..

The powerhouse that is the 1300cc carb motor is soon to vacate the bay.

That was quick..

Enter the "20VT"…..
