Mk1 gti schrick

Post

Hey, im new :)
Im looking at buying as a project a mk1 golf gti 1981 with a schrick turbo conversion,
The conversion was done by turbo technics and it has the plate under the bonnet to prove it, apparently only about 10 were done in right hand drive,
Does anyone know what sort of price these would go for in a condition with an mot and running?
Also does anyone know what horsepower they are running?
Thanks olly

Welcome Olly!

That's a very specific shopping list you've got there - I think you've got more chance of buying a Do-Do shoveling rocking horse poop!

I guess there's still some about but a rare old beast. As for cost, anybody's guess pending condition.

There was a user on here some years ago with one, he had a web site about them too but don't think he's on here anymore.

Of course you could easily find a MK1 with a 20V turbo under the bonnet but I guess that's not what you're looking for!

Good luck with the search, keep us posted ;)

Cheers
Andy

Have done some searching around and memory refreshing! It's mk1turbo - not so active on here now but still a paid member

I don't think his web site is active any longer but it may be worth sending a private message to him to see if he can help you in any way.

The way I've listed his name (putting an '@' symbol before it) will flag this thread up to him so he may well pop along if we're lucky anyway;)

Sorry i wasnt particularly clear,

I actually have a friend who is selling it to me, it needs welding and bodywork but i was just after a figure of how many were made and what the going rate may be :)

I think i will definatly keep it for a long time as i think its going to look awesome when im finished :)

Ah ok with you now. To be honest I don't know what premium the turbo will add to the value - it's rare - but think it may be one of those cases of it's worth what you're willing to pay, esp. if it's a long-term keeper.

If you could get some pics/description up we could at least assess it as a MK1 GTI, plus extra for the turbo.

I'm sure someone will be along more in the know on these than me though ;)
