MK1 Golf Cabrio GL - with Aircon!!

Post

Back to the top
Well having been so manic the last couple of weeks I've not posted up a project thread as usual, but thought I would share the latest MK1 that we have in stock, now ready for sale.

Purchased a few weeks ago, this is quite a rare spec car for UK roads. It's a 1992 Golf Cabrio GL, which has the JH K-Jet engine and GTI suspension, it was ordered in Germany by someone in UK forces as a RHD car and imported to the UK in 1995.

The car was a good base, showing circa 85k miles, pretty good mechanically, bodily and with a very good interior. Since having the car, we've spent a four figure sum of money on parts and paint to make it tip-top again. This included servicing and cam belt change, front brakes, front suspension parts, localised rust removal on one arch and front-end repaint. Also, a brand new, black mohair hood has been fitted.

What's really rare about this car is the inclusion of fully functional aircon!! That seems a bit odd in a cabby but it's nice to have it, and blowing cold too!! Also, there's one-touch electric windows and a full-length interior tonneau cover that we've not seen before.

Here's a couple of progress before and after shots, and a link to the advert. Feel free to comment!!  :thumbs:

On first arrival - driving generally well and look tidy, the roof just looking a little sorry for itself;

New roof in progress;

Inside rear quarters looking solid, just needing a clean;

Pretty much every painted surface and engine component was covered in wax! Great for protection but sucks for removal!;

Half 'n' half!;

The finished article! Wax is left in the important places such as the scuttle corners and lower reaches of the engine bay and chassis legs, so a sympathetic clean has taken place;

A couple of the key features we like - Aircon, in a cabby!! It's fully functional now and blows cold too!  :cool: ;

Also, a full length interior tonneau cover - you can drive with it in too (not the drivers portion though! lol);

This is now one tidy Cabby that wants for nothing - just drive it and service it. It's making me want another one for sure!!

Now up for sale;

Where do you keep finding them Andy, do you have a warehouse full or a field?

What would be a collective noun for a field full of MK1 Cabby's?   O_o  :lol:

Careful you rusty tops!   ;)

A lot of time and elbow grease!! There was a lot of wax. As well as a general purpose cleaner, like G101, we used a mix of industrial wipes and glue & tar remover MrPapageorgio
