So here she is I recently picked her up from the husband of one of my workmates he had this layed up in his garage for the last 3 years did not have the time or money to keep her anymore so I took it off his hands (for a small fee) She is a 1.5 auto in need of some tlc and here is where my project begins

this is when i first saw the car

and these were taken when i got her out and was able to get a good look at her

the car also came with a few parts, brown bumpers 2 doors some brake pads rear hub and a spare engine (which i have yet to collect) from a polo 6n

That is a sweet looking car.

I don't know if I'm preaching to the converted but have you tried spraying the starter bolts with WD40 and leaving them for a while to let the penetrating oil do it's work.

Cheers

  • 1978 MK1 GL 2 door with 2.0 16v ABF, twin 40's, Recaros, lots of suspension mods. I'll get it back on the road one day.
  • 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door. Was my daily doing over 1000 ks a week until it hit a truck. RIP. Got another one now and loving it!
  • 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door for parts.
  • 1998 Seat Cupra + another used as a donor for the MK1
  • 1999 Passat Wagon. Needs street cred but at least it's a manual.

New Update, the stubborn starter motor has been taken off and refurbed have refitted and was still having issues with starting, so back to the drawing board but after fiddling with a few parts and cleaning some bad terminals today was the day that she came to life, I am absolutely buzzing  :ocf_emoticons__icon_smile:  :ocf_emoticons__icon_smile:

It was such a good feeling when she came alive. After much messing about and a few bits cleaned or changed and also changing the leads around on the dizzy to the correct firing order. Was so happy to hear her roar

Well she is almost ready for the beloved M.O.T or that's what I thought until the wipers were switched on and the drivers side arm snapped and the spindle is fubar. So on the hunt for new front wiper assembly. It's a bit annoying as the car is kept at a mates place and can only get there on my days off but I will get there

So. Managed to source a wiper mech and got that replaced put her in for MOT and it got aborted. Car too low to get out of the brake rollers, have put a set of larger wheels on now to give some clearance and will get her back to the test station next week …. Fingers and other bodily parts crossed

Hi Kowky,

Good luck with the restoration.

For info, I currently have a 1.5 auto gearbox which I will be looking to sell soon.  It came from a donar car that I stripped and thought these must be quite rare now - I've kept the engine as a spare (my build is also a 1.5, or 1457cc to be precise), but mine is a manual.

If you are interested, please give me a call on 07970 088845.

Kind regards,

David
