83 GTi Barn Find.

Post

I've been looking for a new project for a while. After looking at loads of over priced rubbish, I stumbled across this on ebay. The listing was very vauge - just listed in the parts section as classic golf, and not much description. It was only an hour away so I decided to take a drive and have a look..

She has been in a barn for 17 years. Needless to say I left a deposit and arranged to pick it up the following week.

Then came collection day, they had been kind enough to give her a wash. I decided to try and drive it back (it had only done 11 miles in 17 years!) and she never missed a beat.

That weekend I gave her a mop and paint correction. Really pleased with the results. The bonnet has a few marks where it was used as a work bench at some stage, but I think this adds to the charm.

.

Also fitted new coilovers, removed the 90's eyebrow spoiler, and replaced the missing chin spoiler.

I had previously purchased a set of BBS RS's in an unusual facemount, and had to fit them on.

I will get slightly bigger profile tyres when funds allow.

Had a little photo shoot.. Also fitted the red stripe around grill.

I have also fitted side stripes back on.

And thats pretty much up to date. I have now owned her for 3 weeks :)

Awesome. Can't believe you drove her home after being stood that long! You are a brave man.

Check the chassis number - it might be a Campaign

Oh, and just to make everyone really jealous, do you mind sharing how much you paid?

Wow, what a find!

17 year old brake fluid and old rubber brake hoses, I bet that was interesting to drive or should I say stop!

I'm not a fan of the BBS wheels, the middle sticks out to far, I much prefer the original type of wheels fitted or even the bottle tops which came with the car.

I knew I forgot something, also had new brakes, brake lines, tyres, and fuel tank removed and cleaned to get it through an MOT :)

I'm from Colchester in Essex, bridge is in a little village called Chappel. Makes for some nice shots.

I paid quite alot for the car, but its so solid it was worth it in my eyes, including the story to go with it.
